Dear Professional Friends Warm Greetings to you all. The month of July 2010 had full of activities at our Branch. Family get-together, sports events and cultural programs were organized as a part of CA Day celebrations. Blood Donation Camp was also organized wherein members and students donated their blood in the camp. The CA Day celebrations were inaugurated by the Chief Guest, CA. A. Arjunaraj, Past Chairman of SIRC, in the presence of our beloved Vice President of ICAI, CA. G. Ramaswamy and Vice Chairman of SIRC, CA. K. Shanmukha Sundaram. Senior members who had completed 30 years of membership were honored for their contribution to the society as a Chartered Accountant. On behalf of the Managing Committee, I convey my thanks to the Chief Guest, Vice President of ICAI, Vice Chairman of SIRC, SIRC Member CA. S. Murali, Members and Students and all the participants of the cultural and entertainment programs, for making the CA Annual Day Celebrations a memorable one. This year, we had organized a ‘Drawing Competition’ under the theme of ‘Greener India’ for the children of our members. The program motivated the children’s skills and their creative thinking. Vision Committee Meeting on ICAI Vision The Vision Committee of ICAI, New Delhi jointly with Coimbatore Branch of SIRC of ICAI, organized a meeting on ICAI Vision at Coimbatore on July 4, 2010. The Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, CA. K. Rehman Khan and Vice President of ICAI, CA. G. Ramawamy interacted with the members on the ICAI Vision. Member’s suggestions and views were deliberated in the program. Two Days IFRS Workshop Accounting Standards Board of ICAI, New Delhi had conducted Two Days All India Workshop on IFRS at Coimbatore on July 10 and July 11, 2010. Vice President of ICAI, CA. G. Ramaswamy and Chairman of Accounting Standards Board of ICAI, CA. Manoj Fadnis, shared their views on the progress of implementation of Accounting Standards converged with IFRS. The participants really appreciated the topics covered in the workshop and the sessions were practically focused by the speakers. I thank the speakers, CA. P R Ramesh, CA. R G Rajan, CA. Chinnasamy Ganeshan and CA. Vikas Bagaria for their excellent presentation. Vivegam Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) We had organized a Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights - (IPR)’ under Vivegam Seminar Series 2010. The speaker, Dr. Sudhir Raja Ravindran, had elaborate discussion with practical examples on IPR and it was well attended by our members. Study Circle Meetings The study circle meetings were addressed by CS. P. Easwaramoorthy on ‘Companies Bill – Amendments 2009’, Mr. Ramesh Damodharan & Mr. P. Durairaj on ‘Emerging Project Opportunities in India’, CA. R. Ragavendran on ‘Enterprise Data Management’. I thank all the speakers for sharing their expert knowledge with all our members and students. Investor Awareness Program We also had the Investor Awareness Program under the aegis of Investor Education and Protection Fund of The Ministry of Corporate Affairs for the general public and members. Dr. M. Manuneethi Cholan, Registrar of Companies and Mr. P.C. Nanda Kumar, Asst. Registrar of Companies, Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore addressed on ‘Vanishing Companies’ and ‘Investment Opportunities for small investors and Role of Investor Associations’ respectively. CA. Asif Ahamed Sheriff addressed on ‘Collective Investment Schemes’. SIRC Member and Chairman of Committee on Financial Markets and Investor Protection, CA. S. Murali also graced the occasion. One Day Seminar on ‘Tax Audit’ Our branch is organizing a One Day Seminar on ‘Tax Audit’ on September 4, 2010. The seminar is to be inaugurated by the Chairman of SIRC, CA. Babu Abraham Kallivayalil. This one day seminar aims to refresh the knowledge of our members on the latest judicial pronouncements on business deductions, Tax Audit Documentation vis-à-vis Peer Review, Accounting Standards with reference to Tax Audit and latest changes in TDS provisions. The details of the program will be sent shortly. I request the members and students to register and participate in large numbers. Sub-Regional Conference All the branches of SIRC in Tamilnadu & Pondicherry are jointly organizing ‘Sub-Regional Conference for Chartered Accountants’ at Salem on August 28, 2010. The details of the program are given in this newsletter. I request the members to register and participate in the conference. The members contact details have been updated and we are in the process of launching the member’s directory online through our branch website www.coimbatoreicai.org. I request those members who have not updated their details with photo, to update the same through online using ‘Update Member’s Details’ option available in our branch portal at the earliest. The other proposed activities for the month of August 2010 have been given in this newsletter.
